One of the world’s most celebrated ballerinas, Natalia Osipova, has withdrawn from several performances in the United States as she recovers after an injury that she sustained last month while dancing the title role in “Giselle” with American Ballet Theater at the Metropolitan Opera House.
Ms. Osipova will not dance as scheduled in a June 17 performance of “Romeo and Juliet” at the Met, Ballet Theater announced on Tuesday. Her home company, the Royal Ballet in London, had announced earlier that she had withdrawn from a planned performance of “Don Quixote” this Saturday night at the Kennedy Center in Washington. She is still scheduled to dance with the Royal Ballet when it performs in New York at the end of the month.
“We are hopeful that Natasha will take the time she needs to fully recover,” Kevin McKenzie, Ballet Theater’s artistic director, said in a statement, using the first name she goes by. Few details have been released about her injury, which stems from a fall.
The Royal Ballet said that Ms. Osipova had sustained “a minor injury.”
“It is hoped that she will be able to dance her scheduled performances in Chicago and New York,” the company said in a statement.
