A new monthly music and literature residency organized by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon will be featured in the Irish Arts Center’s fall season, the company announced on Wednesday. The series, which runs from September through December, will include readings by the authors Joyce Carol Oates and Zadie Smith, among others, as well as music by Mr. Muldoon’s band the Wayside Shrines.
Other events in the new season include the United States premiere of the play “Lippy,” by the Irish company Dead Centre, in the center’s first-ever collaboration with the Abrons Arts Center; a series of concerts by the Dublin-based singer Camille O’Sullivan; and a co-presentation of Mark O’Rowe’s play “Howie the Rookie” with the Brooklyn Academy of Music, part of a series of Irish plays the academy is featuring for its Next Wave Festival.
Plans are already underway to build the Irish Arts Center a new $54 million home that will increase its space to 35,000 square feet from 5,000. Groundbreaking is set for spring 2015, with an opening by the end of 2016. More information is at irishartscenter.org.
