The world premiere of a score for handmade music boxes, clavichord, accordion and prepared auto-harp, by the composer and toy piano virtuoso Phyllis Chen, and the United States premiere of “Illusions,” by the Russian playwright Ivan Viripaev, are highlights of the Baryshnikov Arts Center’s fall 2014 season, the center announced on Monday.

Mr. Viripaev’s 80-minute work, which looks at the connected stories of two married couples, is to open the season on Sept. 17 in a production by Cazimir Liske, who also translated it. It runs through Sept. 24. Ms. Chen’s work will be part of a recital that also includes music by Alvin Lucier, Silvia Corda and John Dowland (as arranged by William Byrd) on Dec. 10.

The schedule also includes the New York premiere of “Chalk and Soot,” a collaboration between Dance Heginbotham, Brooklyn Rider and the singer and violinist Carla Kihlstedt, all former resident artists at the center. The work, with music by Colin Jacobsen and choreography by John Heginbotham, is a coproduction with Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival (Oct. 9-11). Stephen Vitiello’s “Light Readings,” an interactive multimedia installation that uses photocell devices to translate changes of light into sound, is to be on exhibit from Dec. 8 to 18, with a performance by Mr. Vitiello on Dec. 9.

Also as part of the season, the center is hosting artist residencies in its studios, and in the Jerome Robbins Theater, in which 22 artists in several fields will create new projects and exchange ideas. Some of the projects will be presented at public events, which will be announced during the season.
